Figures use the IRCC minimum-funds table in force since September 1, 2025: cost-of-living for one person, rising non-linearly with family size (e.g. for two, for three), plus first-year tuition and travel. A GIC of is a common way to prove the living funds. Note: IRCC discontinued the Student Direct Stream (SDS) in November 2024 — a GIC no longer fast-tracks processing but remains strong proof of funds. Quebec sets its own thresholds. IRCC updates these amounts every year — always confirm current numbers and your eligibility on the official Government of Canada website or with a licensed RCIC.
